Summer of 2012 was an amazing Summer, but not because of any vacations or trips to the beach. My Summer last year wasn’t so much about relaxing, but instead it was about starting on a path to becoming a healthier me. Well, it’s Summer time again, and even though I’ve continued with eating healthy and trying to exercise, I’ve been struggling to find the motivation that I need to really push myself.
I could sit here and throw out any of the standard excuses:
- I’m too tired to workout after such a long day at work
- It’s too hot out
- I’m bored with the same routines over and over again
But instead of trying to throw around a bunch of non-reasons to work my butt off and actually fully live the life I’ve committed to living, I’ve decided that I needed to find something to get excited about, and I think I found it. Starting this coming Monday, June 24, I will be starting a 5 week fitness challenge with Shay Carl and Logan McKay on YouTube.
The challenge runs until August 1st, and I thought it would be a good way to step up my game and have a specific set of goals to work towards. I may not be eating unhealthy right now, but I know I can do better. I may be exercising a little, but I know that if I don’t push myself that there won’t be any real change. It’s time to get serious about this again, and I’m really excited for these next five weeks!
When I was thinking about how I can keep myself accountable during this five week challenge, an idea popped into my head that sounded great, but then it sounded terrifying. I almost decided against it, but then I remembered the words that I’ve said over and over: if you never move outside of what is easy and comfortable, you will never experience growth.
So, even though I am terrified and have no idea how this is going to go, I’ve decided that during the five week challenge I am going to post a video (yes, a video) three days each week. Shay and Logan will be posting videos on ShayLoss Monday through Friday and they have encouraged other people to jump in and make videos as well.
I will still be posting normal blog posts on here like I usually do (Mon., Wed., Thurs.) and will be posting the videos on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. The point of these videos is to try to connect with others that will be participating in the challenge and as a way to better connect with you guys. I also think there’s a lot that can be learned from vlogging and putting forth more than just typed words on a page.
If any of you want to be a part of the challenge, I would absolutely love it if you would join in! Even if you don’t want to post videos or write about your experience, you can still do it on your own and comment on these posts on how you’re doing. And you don’t even have to do a fitness challenge; if there is something that you want to work on, something you want to be better at, then you can take the next five weeks to work on improving yourself over the next five weeks, and we can all do it together.
Comment Question: Will you be doing the challenge? Comment below if you are, and let me know how I can help support you and keep you accountable, too!
